11/1/13 - Friday KS-EMPORIA-GUEST HOUSE
The Budget Host was full again.
As were ½ the motels
in Emporia that night, the Guest House was the only one the Budget Host knew
still had rooms
an hour ago. And they still had rooms when I got
there
As I walked though the building it reminded me of walking
through an old train depot or other old building. I was thinking of what it
would have been like in it's hay day. The restaurant is now closed (no sign
saying why), all but one of the meeting rooms seems to be closed, the pool area
likely would have been full of screaming kids and pool chairs now sits
eerily silent. Not sure if you would call it a 'bar area' or what on the
opposite end of the open area from the pool. It had sat vacant over the last
few years I've stayed here. This visit it is being used for their free
breakfast. A free breakfast I only found from taking a wrong turn to find
my room. I was not told about it at check in/check out and there are no signs
in the entry / check in area. The only sign is by the door to the room, which
is likely passed by only 10% of the guests. There was a dedicated person
servicing the area, so everything was clean and full. Breakfast included
scrambled eggs, sausage, yogurt, fruit, warm and cold cereal. But not a wide
variety. One kind of bread, one kind of muffins, one kind of fruit, two kinds
of dry cereal but it did not taste 'name brand,' and the orange juice cartons
were the size of the yogurt contains. So more than enough to eat, but not a 1st
class set up. Actually the setup up was 1st class, it was the food that was
not. The room is showing the years but no issues other than the WiFi only
