WI-EDGERTON - WINCHESTER (Part 2)
2nd visit.
This trip the only thing I don't know is what the soup of
the day is
cheesy potato. So my order is soup and their patty melt. Soup
is a little thinner than I was expecting but lots of 'stuff' in the soup.
Sandwich was good, onions were as good as last time. Next time I will try
a different sandwich, I'll be back.

I may have to change my opinion
About the Red Roof
chain. This place is really nice. I have always thought of the Red Roof as
just an expensive '6. But this room was very nice (see Oct 2013 pics), desk
chair was very comfy as was the bed. Also see pic's for electrical outlets
one shows the ones built into the nightstand. There were also two beside
the desk, two at desk level and one on the lamp. No reason to unplug anything
or move furniture just to get to an outlet. The only issue was the toilet,
it was just loose enough so that when you sit down it would go 'clunk.' I
mentioned that to the front desk in the AM and they pulled out a 'fix it'
ticket right away. The person checking me in went through the whole list
of perks they offer. If you get in town early enough, there is a
___________________________________ right next door. The only 24 food is the
Waffle House about two blocks away
but be careful, those truckers hit
the frontage road about about 60 mph. Truck parking? About a dozen
dedicated spots for 40 ft rigs, if you have a semi, parking seems to be
permitted on the frontage road, lots of rigs parked there the night I was
there.

A pretty week
'Hello.'
Only one person out front when I walked in, so not the usual
'Hello' in unison. I knew what I wanted so they got the order in right
away. Eggs scrambled with cheese, bacon, hash browns with onions and wheat
toast. They forgot the onions so they took that off the bill plus another 10%
for their error. Food was good. It's the only 24 hour restaurant
within walking distance of the Red Roof Inn.

Hands down
This place wins over
the Shoney's in (all most) all areas. I didn't see anything that looked
like it had been 'sitting,' everything looked fresh. 4 kinds of meat, beef
(salisbury steak), ham, chicken and fish. Veggies and sides, the potato's at
least looked real and were hot enough to melt the butter (spread).
Everything in the salad bar area looked fresh, there were even a couple of
deserts that tempted me (I rarely eat deserts), 1st trip I had the
salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and a bun. 2nd trip was ham and the salad bar
iceberg lettuce, eggs, cheese, croutons, French AND 1,000 island
dressing
then I had the lemon cake and something similar to strawberry
shortcake. The area's they don't win over Shoney's are
parking. I
run a big rig and had to back up to get turned around here. The other area was
the rest room, it looks like it gets cleaned but it is the 'un-clean' that
comes from being old. Great food, great help. Not sure if the food is
'home made' or if it comes from a box, but the place gives you the feel that it
is all home made.

I am shocked
No line at
Charlie's today? 2nd Pilly Deluxe I have had here in the last week. Both
good, really good. I just wish the rest of their chain could figure out how to
make them as they do at this location. I have likely had close to a dozen
Philly's over the last few years at the ATL airport, never a bad sandwich. (And
I've never had one as good anywhere else) |
