10/25/13 - Friday MN-PIPESTONE - KELLY'S KOFFEE - POSTED
We had never been to Pipestone before, we were driving through town
just past meal time, saw Kelly's and Lange's. Kelly's had more cars so that is
where we stopped. It is in an old Hardee's building, the outside hasn't
changed much if at all, the inside looks like a coffee shop. They have
partitioned off two rooms for small private parties, but lots of windows, you
can still see all the way through the building. Mostly tables and chairs with a
few 'reading chairs,' no booths. You order your food as you would at a
fast food place, but then they bring it to you on real plates
but the
cups are 'to go,' so a mix. I ordered a Philly with Wisconsin cheese soup,
the person I was with ordered a club with cole slaw. Philly was on Texas toast,
lots of cheese and onions
lots of green peppers too. Usually the green
peppers are sauteed enough that they loose most of their kick. No here, they
had a little more kick than I like so I had to pick a few of them off. Soup was
OK. Cole slaw was GREAT, club was good. Service was good.

Just did the drive-thru on a
Friday afternoon. They are closing on Sunday for the season (they will be
closed by the time this gets approved and posted) Both the Blizzard and
the Hot Fudge Sunday had a 'different' taste about them. The Blizzard seemed
more like a softserv with the Oreo's blended in than the usual Blizzard
texture. The got the order wrong, they gave us a strawberry Sunday instead of a
Hot Fudge but it only took seconds for them to get us the right one.
MN-MARSHALL - TRAVLERS INN - POSTED
For some reason I thought
I was looking for a Travelodge
guess my eyes (or my mind) is going.
I can use my corp pricing here, not a bad price but I paid the same price last
night for a 1st class motel in another town. I know that prices vary greatly
from town to town. Tonight in this town both the Comfort Inn and the Ramada Inn
(both with a lower rating than this place) were full. The AmericInn still had
rooms but they start well over $100. (The Travelers Inn had a 4-1/2 TripAdvisor
rating when I am writing this, everyone else was at a 4 or lower) Person
at the front desk was pleasant, no issues at check in. Only complaint was
that the room was a little 'stale' when we checked in, like it had been closed
up for a few days. Other than that the room is very clean, a little small but
no issues. Mostly single level, one area has a 2nd floor. Park at the door, the
2 level building has two power outlets in front of every door, great perk for
winter. The images provided by management are accurate
except there
should be a TV on the desk.

Three doors down
from the Travelers Inn.
Seated almost right away, orders taken almost right away, food did take a
little while but not painfully long. Neither the person I was with nor I
was real hungry so we split a BBQ sandwich and each had soup. We both had the
tomato soup. The other person loved it, I like mine a little creamyer, this one
was almost as thick as spaghetti sauce with lots of chucks of tomatoes.
The sandwich came with a side, we chose cole slaw. This had to be 'home made,'
it was in huge chunks. Not as creamy as I like it but still really good,
nothing was left. The BBQ was really good too
so three for three.
Not sure what they could have done better so it has to get a 5.
10/26/13 - Saturday MN-MARSHALL - MIKE'S
Problems that
restaurants
like to have : 8 AM on a Saturday
morning and a parking spot was hard to find and once inside there were very few
open tables. We were seated almost as soon as we walked in, we were
ordering the special so we didn't need menu's. Both the person I was with and I
had eggs, meat and hashbrowns. They were over easy and with ham, mine were
scrambled, with bacon and onions in the hasbrowns. Good to the last bite,
easy to see why the place is packed.
MN-BEMIDJI - QUALITY INN
- POSTED
We did check one other location before checking in here, they
were full. Check in went well, I was asking about discounts and they
reminded me of their AAA discount so we saved a few dollars there. They only
had one room left, but no issues with it. See pics
everything met
their 'quality' standards. Good breakfast in the AM, scrambled eggs,
sausage, make your own waffles, plus the usual motel fare.
MN-BEMIDJI - GROUND ROUND
I haven't eaten at a Ground Round in 20-30
years. The ones in our area closed long before their 2004 bankruptcy. We
were seated as soon as we walked in, our waitress was there almost as fast to
take our drink order, then back shortly to take our food order. Food did take a
while but not extra long. Both the person I was with and I had their
¼ lb Ground Rounder, the other person picked a side of sweet potato
fries, I picked the French Onion soup. Everything was great. We had gotten
there about 6 PM, an hour later there was a line waiting to be seated. |
