On Tuesday ...
the west coast bus dispatcher called me to find out when I could be out there
... 'not for at least another week' ...

Spending the night at
home ...
At 10 AM they put out an RV for Davis and one for Salt Lake
City. We talked about it ... and while we were still talking, one of them was
gone.
We had talked over the weekend about how we needed to just grab
the first thing that looked like it might work. The load board is very slow and
we are not likely to get the 'perfect trip' for another week or two. We need to
be rolling now.
But we forgot about that right then. We could have
gotten down the road a few miles yet today and delivered by Friday
...

Spending the night at home ...
(for most of the last three weeks)
We were up and watching the load
board as soon as the east coast opens. The two most interesting things all day
were a local trip for about 50 miles and a IA to NE trip. But we wanted to hold
out for a long trip. And we are still holding.
I did get a call from my
local company. They wanted me to take a trip to ND and then pick up a 2nd truck
and bring it back to MN. Would have worked good at the other end of the month,
but as I've already said ... 'We are waiting for a long trip.' So I
passed.
The most RV's there were on the load board today was five. And
that only happened for a few seconds twice within 10 minutes. The longer trip
today was going to FL. That was out there a few minutes. The only two going the
same direction were actually going to the same location but were not on the
load board at the same time. And they were going to Canada.
... it's
been a week since the west coast bus dispatcher called. I said it would be at
least a week ... now it has been that and we are still sitting. I had looked at
the cost of a car to just drive out there. $2,000 for three days rental. Even
at $100 a day, $300 total it isn't always worth it. (And BB needs to work too.
She has already gotten her 30 day notice)
After we knew we were not
working, the guy I help locally called. He was stuck. He swung wide at the end
of a field and got off the sand ground. He had been wanting me to come back
when the clay dried up but that wasn't mentioned today ... if it is that wet
next to the sand ...

Spending the night at home.
Got going early to help
someone get un-stuck. That was quick, came right out.
BB watched the
load board while I was gone. I did not keep track of what came and went today.
Things are staying on the load board longer now.
Out of the seven RV's
on the load board, two are to NY, two to TX and two the the same customer in
IL. So we have choices ... if we were not waiting for the ideal trip.
To
do the NY or TX it would add about 10 miles to the longer leg to do them
together ...
