11/9/13 WI-TOMAH-HEALTHY PLATTER Big rig
parking
is not an issue here. It is part of the Kwik Trip truckstop. The
upkeep of the place is more like a Denny's or Perkins, well kept up. I was not
up for a buffet today, but I am on a ½ hour break so I was looking for
something fast. One of today's specials is a Chicken salad sandwich and
I sub'ed soup. California melody soup. I prefer my soup with a little more
broth, after the first two scoops it was impossible to not get a spoonful of
vegi's. Carrots, culiflower
other stuff. Chicken sandwich was good,
crossant was fresh. I usually stay away from this sandwich because there are so
many ways to make it (and not all good, IMO).
IN-LEBANON-HUDDLE HOUSE
Clean plate club. Big rig parking
is not an issue here. That is the
reason I ended up here tonight. It is Saturday and I did not want to try to get
my big rig in someplace I'd regret. This location is at the Flying J so plenty
of parking. Where this restaurant is used to be the Flying J restaurant and the
cramped style of the Huddle House is trying to fill the space. In one area they
have just a few tables when 3x as many would fit in that area. Everything
looked clean and well kept up. I ordered eggs, scrambled, bacon, wheat toast
and hashbrowns. It is unusual that I clean my plate as I am not a big eater,
this time I was able to. The portion did look a little small, but all I can
eat. Food was good. Service was good.
IN-SOUTHPORT-CUMFORT SUITES I
wish I could stay here again. I only ended up here tonight because my usual 1
& 2 star motels were full. I run a big rig (no sleeper) and every dollar I
spend on motels comes out of my takehome pay. This is only the 2nd Comfort
Suites I have stayed at, both were great. They are the kind of place the women
I know WOULD stay, (unlike most places I stay.) Between PM and AM I talked to
four different employees
CS
Customer Service, everyone of them.
Great crew. Room was all you would expect from this level of motel, lacking
nothing. Breakfast was
mini-omlets, sasage patties, waffles (four little
ones instead of one big one), plus the usuals. Cold cereal was in the single
serving size. One employee was dedicated to keeping the area stocked and clean
(as compared to a nearby motel that places their breakfast out and then hides).
maybe if I pass this way on vacation I will get to stay here again. (big
rig parking is 'nearby,' ask at the desk before parking)
11/10/13
TN-MURPHY'SBURO - WAFFLE HOUSE
if you have lots of time
My
delays started next door at the Pilot truckstop waiting for people to jockey
for position. This Pilot is as crampted as the TA's I avoid. So I had already
used part of my ½ hour break before getting to the Waffle House door. I
have eaten at various locations recently so I know the menu, I was ready to
order when the waitress came to my table. I did not let them take my drink
order until I had ordered my food. Almost immeaditly I was advised that it
could be a 20 minute wait for my food, the cook was way behind (if you have
been in a Waffle House, you know they are a very small place). 10 minutes after
ordering I heard them yelling out my order, then another 7-8 minutes and the
food was on my table. By now my ½ hour was gone. Food was good, eggs
scrambled, bacon, wheat toast, hashbrowns with onions and OJ.
another
delay getting out of the Pilot lot. Even if the food had been rushed, I would
not be back. I need to have a place to park that I can get in and out of
quickly.

11/11/13 GA-ATL- 5 GUYS Great burgers This
is only the 2nd time I have eaten at one (so I know the fries are great too,
but I was not that hungry). Today they had one person directing traffic to
speed things along, even though there was no line when I was there
or
maybe that is the reason there is no line. Food was prompt, very important some
days at the airport.
and the food was great. |
