ECONOLODGE - PALISTINE ???
I may
have to change my opinion of the Econo Lodge chain, 'most' Econo's I have
stayed at lately are along the lines of the average Days Inn / Super 8. My
memory puts them in the group that includes the Knights Inn and Rodeways.
Check in was pleasant, The room was pre-cooled, so the AC works. Room was
clean, quiet, water was hot. The room also seemed large, not sure if that shows
that way on the pictures. Another that that I didn't get a specific picture of
was the light switches. On the pictures of the bed, you can almost see the
light switch next to the bed. It had four switches on it, one for each light in
the room : This place also has a separate area for the big rigs, not just
a large lot. There is a couple of other places to eat, but I ended up at the
Steak and Shake, (meals for $3.99) good food, quick.
STEAK AND
SHAKE <<<< Not posted <<<< Price was right
but how long can they stay in business serving meals for $3.99? Service was
quick, servers were pleasant, burger was good, malt was great.
HOLIDAY INN No big rig parking here, but I dumped my rig last night and I
am on my way to the airport in the AM. This place is up to all Holiday Inn
standards, the only issue I had was when I showered in the AM, I was up to my
ankles in water. Other than that a great room, I will be back, I hope to be
back a few more times this summer. Restaurant is closed in June so they
have a shuttle to an area of downtown where a bunch of restaurants are. I
didn't want to spend a couple of hours so I walked across the street to the
Kabob house.
great food. Someone else mentioned the neighborhood, I
agree, it is not the best. Even walking to the Kabob House directly across the
street I it was crossing my mind that I could get mugged, Even though I did not
come in contact with anyone. As I walked back to the Inn, I noticed that it
looked like the Inn security guard is armed, something I don't see in most of
the country. The airport shuttle and some corporate pricing is what got me
here, and I'll be back.
KABOB HOUSE <<< post the end
of September I am not a large eater, to the point of I often won't order a
burger if all they have is a 1/3 pounder. And if I am at home and eat out, I
often take half my meal home and make two more meals out of the 2nd half.
But I do like Gyros. So that is what I ordered
first. Then the Philly
looked so I ordered one of those too. The place has the fast food layout with
no table service. I decided I would get it to go. I ended up eating the
whole gyro and half of the Philly before I couldn't eat anymore. I saved the
other half in the fridge for breakfast the next morning. It was even good cold.
The gyro gave me a taste for them again so a few days later had one at a local
chain in my town, it was twice the price and only half as good. This place
is not in the best neighborhood, I was across the street at the Holiday Inn and
felt un-easy walking across the street. I may stay at the other motel /
America's Best ? a ½ a block away and I'm not sure I would feel safe
walking that far. |
