2 RV's to Davis CA (delivered) 1 boom truck to Carthage
NC (Wednesday) ... spending the night at Santa Nella CA
We were awake
at 4 AM (local) 6 AM home time. We were up, got ready had breakfast ... and
then decided we would wait to leave an hour later.
Last night we were in
the Comfort Inn in Fernley NV.
The drop will not take units between
11:30 and 1 PM so we decided to wait and spend our time in the hotel instead of
in their parking lot or in the car somewhere waiting for the next
trip.
As we sat, we decided to call on a local move but that trip is
dispatched from the west coast so it would be a couple of hours. Then, a trip
heading to Nebraska showed up. We finally decided to call on it even though it
was listed as 'tractor.' Then, before I called another trip showed up going to
NC that was not a tractor.
So I called and got a good dispatcher, some
others have their bad days and it shows. This dispatcher gave me all the info
on the NE tractor and the phone number so I could call and see what it really
was. ... then I asked for the NC info, because I was curious. They told me
how much it paid ... I looked at BB ... and we said we would take this NC one
instead and not call on the NE trip.
The down side is the NC truck is
picking up at an auction house. SOMETIMES those can really be junk. But if they
are paying me this much to move it, I doubt/hope it is not junk. We also hope
that there are two seats and room for all of our luggage. (it was listed as a
box truck, not a boom truck which it is)
I called the shipper as soon as
I got the paperwork and they just said come on in. Online is says you need to
have an appointment but I am guessing that is for days closer to an
auction.
We pull out without fueling. We each have enough fuel to get to
the drop plus a couple of miles.
Before we get to Reno, a semi with an
extra trailer passes me and I notice he is coming over the line ... then I
realize he IS coming over. Even with me tapping the breaks he only missed my
bumper by about three feet. I wonder if sometimes the drivers forget they are
passing TWO RV's and when they clear the first one, BB, they think it is safe
to come over.
Coming through Reno there was at least a half dozen cops
with people pulled over on the on coming traffic plus the oncoming inspection
station was open. We did see to cops on our side, but they were up the ramp.
Good thing we only saw them, we kind of forgot that we were on a timetable to
get out of town this AM.
First time in a while people were working the
fruit inspection stop. I wasn't watching far enough ahead and my lane had a
U-haul with a trailer stopped and the doors open. Before I could get out of the
lane they were gone.
All they asked me was 'It's wrapped, new unit?' And
I/we were gone.
1st stop was the rest area in Gold Run. We were both OK
on fuel, but we are still going to stop in Rocklin, not for fuel, but for
food.
2nd stop is Marios Early Toast. We drove around the nearby parking
lot once before someone left and we could park where we wanted. Marios used to
be a Denny's a few years ago, maybe two? Last time we stopped it must have been
the weekend and the line was too long. Today it was 11 AM on a week day and we
were seated right away.
Very good food, I had a breakfast and BB had a
BLT of some kind. I think the 'toast' part of the name comes from them serving
alcohol in the AM, with breakfast. Didn't notice anyone having any, but it is
an option. This place shares a parking lot with the Comfort Inn we stay at
here.
While we were there, I called my bus dispatcher to let him know I
would be gone. When I call, I always say who I am ... and before I could say
more, he says 'Sorry, it's not going to work this time. Most all the buses are
on hold. Try again next time.'
... then I tell him ... 'I'm calling to
let you know I have found other work and won't be able to to a bus this time'
... his tone changed and 'Have a safe trip.' One less driver for him to worry
about.
33 miles to go and I have a range of 77. Not sure we could have
planned it any better on fuel. And yes, we did still make money on the
fuel.
We get to our final fuel and BB has to back in as there are only
two pumps with diesel. I see her backing and walk over and end up yelling ...
STOP. She was watching her camera's but it didn't look to me like she was going
to stop in time. She did.
I went over by three cents, she went over by
one cent on the final fuel. THAT will come out of our pockets.
At the
drop, their offices have moved again. We are early and they are not here. As
soon as we get there, BB walks down to get the rental car. She gets to deal
with a new person on the staff that has to question everything so a five minute
sign in takes a half hour. But we got a car.
When the inspector at the
drop does come out, they walk around the RV's, find the extra set of keys and
are gone back to the office. We expect that once they are done in the office
that they will come out and take the RV's, wash them and then spend another
hour inspecting. Nope, new crew. That was there inspection. They come back with
the signed paperwork.
And we are off.
By now it is after 2 PM. We
can make it to Santa Nella where the hotel is $70. Or we can keep driving after
dark and pay $100-$150. We can't deliver until Monday so not in a rush that
way.
Not having to count my car hours as driving would have helped but
not enough to make a difference.
Neither of us are hungry but we stop at
In-n-Out and each get a burger. Later we split one of the Port-O-Subs
cookies.
Rough week I guess. We have to send in our driving logs and BB
does that via her phone. So she looks at mine, double checking them. Today I
had three days where I put the month as 12 instead of 11 and one day where I
put 2027 instead of 2023 ... and no, it was not just sloppy
writing.

Tomorrow ... we have 5-6 hours to get to the shipper. An hour plus at
the pickup and dropping the rental car. Then two hours back to Barstow. I'd
like to get further but the next town with any hotel is another two hours. We'd
have to leave at 5 AM to get past Barstow, we think.

1 boom truck to Carthage NC ... spending the night at
Barstow CA
Up and down for breakfast by 6 AM local, BB had been up since
4 AM. She is still on central time. But breakfast doesn't open until 6:30 so we
packed up and left.
1st stop was a couple of hours down the road in Lost
Hills at the Loves for fuel and food. Breakfast was from the shelf.
2nd
stop was at Castaic at the Pilot to use the restrooms. We get back on the
freeway and I am kind of going with the flow of traffic until I see the 55 mph
speed limit sign ... as I slow down I realize there is no one behind me for a
half a mile. ... Then I see someone pull to the shoulder and I can see a car
behind them but not there lights ... too close ...
Not stop and go
traffic so far, just trying to pass the slow(er) ones and keep out of the way
for the ones going 20+ over the limit.
The GPS keep saying '... save 15
minutes by (re-routing) ...' we finally did.
3rd stop was at a Subway
for food and the restroom. I wasn't hungry so I just got their smallest
simplest sandwich. (which I never did eat)
Next stop was less than a
mile away. Last sale here was 10 days ago and everything is supposed to be
removed in 14 days. I had no idea, never been to this brand before.
I
had looked at an online map so I knew were to go. We get there and traffic is
stopped on the street. Then we realized this is the line so we wait. It was
about a half hour in line before we got to the gate, then we are sent to
another building where I need to wait in line again. All is quick and painless,
it just takes time.
The person at the guard shack had told us to come
back once we had the until number and they could tell us exactly where it was.
There was only two of this kind of unit today and only one the correct brand so
we just went direct to the truck.
1st thing we noticed was that the
passenger seat was there but taken off. Then I tried to start it. It was dead.
As we were trying to decide which building to go to for help, the yard truck
pulls up and asks if things are OK ... no they are not.
They try to jump
it and it doesn't. Seems something was loose on their truck end, once they got
that right is turned right over.
We were kind of hoping we would find a
reason not to take it. It is used, well used. But it is a rental truck and that
brand takes pretty good care of their stuff so overall it should be
good.
First we saw two open places to store stuff that were already
full. Then we found a closeable one that was also full of stuff. This is a
stick shift so pretty much just room for my back pack and everything else we
fit in the storage box after we moved their stuff to the open boxes. It all
fits. It will be interesting.
Finally we were ready to go, to drop the
rental car.
Good news, there is enough fuel to get to the hotel tonight.
Bad news, top speed is 53 mph. That will add about five HOURS to our cross
country trip.
And it is a stick. I haven't killed it yet but I have had
some issues.
All this took time so we are in rush hour traffic. Lots of
stop and go ... with a stick. And lots of 25 mph.
Scale was closed. Good
thing, as during our inspection we found three lights not working. I'm not too
worried about it, we don't plan on running at night so the only issue would be
if we got an inspection. And this used piece will be a target.
Got to
the Comfort Inn in Barstow after dark. Went to take a picture of which lights
were not working ... and they all were working ???
Went to Tommy's
burgers across the street.
Fresh cookies were ready when we got back to
the hotel. I should have been hungry. One small burrito for breakfast and one
late burger. Should help the scale.
I need permits for this trip so I
called when we got to the hotel. They are supposed to be open until 6:30 ...
but they seem to stop answering the phone at <> 5 PM and then shut it off
at 6:30. So I will need to deal with that tomorrow. BB looked at our carrier
site and it shows that AZ does not need a printed copy anymore so that makes
that easier.

Not likely any 500 mile days this trip.
First stop tomorrow
will be fore fuel across the freeway. $1 more than AZ but less than anywhere
else close. (At 53 mph I hope we get good mpg ... good enough to pay for the
extra hotel we are going to have)

CA-NC
1 boom truck to Carthage NC ... spending the night at
Holbrook AZ
... I guess I am not a trucker ...
Yesterday my truck
would not go over 53 mph. Then last night I looked on the auction listing of
the truck and saw it was a 13 speed. I was driving it as a 9 speed. :) I
never found 13th gear. Then. Had to look it up on YouTube.
Spent last
night at the Comfort Inn in Barstow. It was closer to fuel and the shop and for
that we paid another $40 for our hotel room.
Breakfast was good. Bacon
and some other bacon like meat, plus real (?) eggs and potatoes.
This AM
I called and got my permits when the TX office opened. We are supposed to deal
with the CA location but they won't be open until after I have left the
building.
Then I called the AZ Port of Entry and they will accept a copy
of the permit on a phone or tablet/notebook. So we do not need to wait for
permits to be printed.
When we get out to do the morning truck
inspection, I go back to take a picture of all the lights that were not working
... yesterday. Today they are all working ?? But, the truck was low on oil so
we need to deal with that at the truckstop.
Across the freeway to the TA
truck stop. I try to start my pump but the '2' is not working on the pump
keypad so I can't fill in the needed info. So I go into the main truckstop
building where they think I am trying to by gas ... Then they send me to the
diesel office and my card still doesn't work. I haven't tried it since Monday
when it quit working. So then I had to find BB who was in the main building
looking for me. She planned ahead and kept money on her card instead of moving
it all to the bank.
Finally got diesel, DEF and oil. This, plus the AM
inspection, took 45 minutes.
Wow, now that I know how, this truck will
go 65 mph ... then I see the sign. Trucks three axels and over, 55 mph.
2nd stop today was the rest area near Essex. BB finally throws away my
sandwich from yesterday. Sort of. There were a lot of crows hopping around, so
she unwrapped the sandwich and put it in the trash on top the wrapper. One crow
carried the whole sandwich away at one time.
Saw two trucks in CA today
that had stalled right in the travel lane. By the time we got there, the cops
had each cones off so traffic was down to one lane.
2nd stop was in
Kingman at the Petro for fuel and food. ... now I am a trucker. I / we
started the fuel pump with BB's card. I put the fuel nozzle in and started it
and turned around and the nozzle came out still pumping. High speed. Not sure
how many gallons it can pump before it hits the ground. I know a slow gas pump
can fill my one gallon can in seconds.
I got soaked. Lightly, but from
my cap to my boots.
I had told BB when we were starting the pump to be
careful where she stepped because there was diesel all over on the ground. That
was before I made the mess bigger. I'm guessing someone else had the same
issue. I had no issue earlier today at the TA, I put the nozzle in and walked
away like I have done 100's and 100's of times in the last 20 years. So I don't
think it was me, or the truck. I think it was their nozzle or hose.
BB
finds napkins so I can dry hands off.
When we got there, there was a
truck that had pulled ahead after fueling. He was still there when I was done,
so I backed out. As soon as I backed out, someone else pulled in, by the time
we had our food, that truck was backing out and the original truck was still
sitting there. This part of the truckstop is the size of my living room, where
can someone spend that much time?
We ate in the truck, it's well, well
used. And I made phone calls so this was another 45 minute stop.
Coming
back to the truck, I found out that my door handle, six feet off the ground was
soaked with fuel. After we got going down the road, I noticed that my mirror
was dripping with fuel.
Around Flagstaff the sanding trucks were out.
They are supposed to be getting snow overnight in the higher elevations. We
might get some snow tomorrow when we are driving.
By now we have been in
this truck for <> 400 miles. Every so often we had head this clunking
against the cab. We each think it is coming from our side of the truck. We look
while we are driving, we look over the outside of the cab when we are stopped
... Finally we realize that BB is hitting the electronic door lock with her
foot when she has them up. That is why we each thought it was on our side of
the truck, because it was, it was locking/unlocking both doors. Only took 400
miles and dozens ... 100+ clicks to figure it out.
Hmmm ... we didn't
adjust to changes. Because my truck would only go 53 mph, we knew we could not
make it to NM today. But after we knew it could/should go faster, we did not
change how far we would get today so we got the NM trip for tomorrow. So now we
will be shutting down in Hollbrook early because that is the last hotel before
NM.
3rd stop was at a rest area near Parks. Out houses and trucks only.
From here I called my local dispatcher because no one had answered their phone
or replied to my messages and I need to start using my fuel card instead of
BB's. They were able to give me a 2nd number and name who did answer. They can
see EVERYTHING on line that happens with that card. They explained the why and
the 2nd decline had nothing to do with the first. My card should be working, we
will see tomorrow.
BB got a call from the RV dispatcher, they still need
drivers. Will we be back next week? We don't know.
The carrier is paying
me as if I was getting 3+ mpg. We were hoping it would get better than that.
Now that we have fueled twice it looks like we are, we should only have to fuel
once a day so that will save me some log book time.
4th and final stop
is the Quality Inn in Holbrook. Things change. I like to drive down these old
'Route 40' towns and see what has changed. Lots. One restaurant that hadn't
been opened in 20 years is now open again. Other's have closed. Others seem
closed but there are still new cars there.
The Quality Inn has added
truck parking in the back since last time and it was close to full when we got
there at about 4 PM.
We go next door for food at the Bienvenidos. Good
food. BB had a green chili burger and fried carrots and I had a Hawaiian burger
and house cut fries. And a piece of KeyLime pie to go. We each only at half of
our burger and saved the rest for breakfast. This place usually doesn't have
much for breakfast.
I tried to print out my NM permit for tomorrow but
things were not working and the desk clerk has only been there a month and
doesn't know or doesn't have access to much of anything. We will deal with it
tomorrow.
Today I counted transporters. We saw 39 other no-tow
transporters that we could tell for sure. I'm guessing there was at least that
many that we saw but they didn't have placards, etc so we knew for sure. We
only saw one transporter hauling their car and none towing. (And there are a
very vocal group of drivers who insist that the ONLY way to make money in
driveaway is to tow)
I have a FB group and have the settings so some
things won't get posted unless I OK them. One of those things yesterday was
someone asking 'Any of you have a driveaway for sale' ... it didn't get posted
and I didn't ask.

2023 12 01 CA-NC
1
boom truck to Carthage NC ... spending the night at Albuquerque
NM
... I guess I am not a trucker ...
I still am, so
far.
We spent last and ... and all morning in Holbrook at the Quality
Inn. Breakfast was left overs. I was going to go to the office this AM to get
paperwork printed, but BB mentioned that NM will also accept looking at a
permit on a phone or tablet.
So to make sure, I called the Port of
Entry. They will accept the digital ... AND as long as I was on the phone with
them, I asked about the road conditions. NM had not updated their website in
over 24 hours and a storm came through last night. ... Roads are clear from
ABQ to Flagstaff.
We walk out of the hotel about 6:30 local. And the
truck will not start. Seems to have enough power to turn the starter but only
fires once every five tries or so. Finally after <> 20 tries I call
dispatch.
They have to call the customer, the customer calls me, the
customer calls roadside. They want to try new batteries instead of just getting
a jump. FIVE hours later, roadside arrives.
We try to start it with
starting fluid. Same thing. Fires once and then just cranks. So we try to jump
it, it starts ... but. These are gel based batteries. They need a <>
24 hour trickle charge to stay charged. Getting charged from the engine running
allows the truck to keep running but most build up a charge and will likely
need to be jumped again until the 24 hour trickle charge is done.
Even
though the truck is running, the customer wants new batteries in. Which
roadside has brought with them. Somewhere during the jumping, the coolant level
dropped and the warning light came on. Roadside had that also. And they had
starter fluid so I ended up with a can of that also and an OK from the customer
to use it.
It is now 12 noon, 5-1/2 hours after inspection ... we are
able to pull out.
Port of Entry is open as it <> always is. About
a mile before the POE, it starts to snow ... I run the wipers and the right one
FALLS OFF. I knew they were in bad shape and we were counting how many swipes
we were going to get before something happened.
At the POE, we show them
our permit on the tablet ... They say you're good with the permit ... BUT they
want to do a truck inspection at door #2. I don't think I have ever been in a
truck that was more likely to fail ...
I pull in, they ask for my
paperwork. They seem OK with everything I tell them and show them. I have to
dig for my daily logs as they are buried in the small cab. BB notices I am so
nervous by now that my hands are shaking as I am trying to collect my past
logs.
Then the inspector starts on my truck. First the front lights,
then the wipers/washers ... :( the washer didn't work at all and as they walked
past my door they said the one wiper did not work ... we said it just quit a
mile back ... they smiled. I'm sure they have heard that a million
times.
Then the back lights ... somewhere in there I was distracted for
a few seconds ... NOT a good thing. But I was paying attention again by the
time they got to the back of the truck. Lights, tires all check good.
I
was distracted by another officer calling the person checking permits to send
the next one in.
Then my inspector wanted to check my fire extinguisher,
we are exempt but I didn't mention that. They checked the date, it was still
good. Then triangles. First I showed them the ones with the truck. Not sure if
they noticed there were only two, I did not then. But I told them I had better
ones that were mine. When they saw my carrying bag, they started asking
questions about that.
There might have been something else and then they
said they had something for me to sign and asked how I liked their weather ...
better than MN ... then they said their husband had been from MN.
Not
sure what or how but I got a CLEAN inspection. I signed and was gone :)
By the time I pull out of the inspection bay it has mostly quit
snowing. I pull off to the side to look at the wiper, I have to open the hood
to get it to come off. It is bend and broken. There is a roadside replacing a
tire next to me but I ask and they do not carry wipers.
I decide to stop
at the next exit at one of the repair shops. They can have parts, but there
will be a $350 delivery fee for the parts, plus the cost of the parts and
service.
That was a no-go. I knew that before calling dispatch. While
dispatch was deciding things on their end, I called the closest Kenworth
dealer. They told me what they thought the issue was. About a $600 repair ...
and they might be able to get me in next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Nope.
Finally after an hour, dispatch gave me the OK to remove the
broken one so it doesn't damage the window. I haven't figured out how to do
that yet but by now it is sunny and the forecast is for clear skies the next
2,000 miles.
Finally we are rolling again. but we are only going to make
it to ABQ tonight.
When I park, we are still thinking about removing the
wiper. Then as we walk around the unit, we see that one of the outriggers/legs
has dropped to within a few inches of the ground.
We check into the
Quality Inn and walk to our Mexican restaurant. The walk is longer now that the
hotels all have six foot high fences around them. At one point we have to walk
in the street as the homeless have already filled the sidewalk.
We
decided to eat inside. Great food, we have eaten here a dozen times over the
years. And sometimes, like tonight, there is someone going from table to table,
?, live mariachi band? Tonight it is just a man with his guitar.
BUT he
stayed mostly at one table and after a few songs, one of the people at the
table started singing solo to his playing. This lasted about half the time we
were at the restaurant. Finally their food came and the guitar man
left.
As we were leaving, the man how had been singing and my eyes met.
Instead of looking away (like strangers usually do) I gave him the thumbs up.
His face lit up and he returned the thumbs up. I don't know a word he sang, but
it seemed to me to be right on tune and a good voice. On one song I could here
more voices had joined in with him.
Walking back to the hotel, we had to
walk on the street again to get past the homeless. Now they even had a fire
going just off the sidewalk. Blankets spread out on the sidewalk, not sure why,
there is room off the sidewalk right there.
We go inside of a gas
station and there is a homeless asking how much something from the hot food is
... then they walk away. Another homeless is using the stores outlet to charge
a cell phone.
We get back to the hotel and look for how to raise the
outrigger. Now it is almost touching the ground, it will be by morning. I see
re receiver for wireless on the outrigger part but we search everywhere and
there is no remote. I start the truck and we try to find switches to start the
hydraulic pumps needed to run the outriggers. Nothing. We finally give up and
will have to deal with it on Saturday.
Or not.
Unlike the truck
engine repair, there is not an outrigger shop on every corner. The only local
shop will be open at 8 AM ... Monday.
There may be a way to raise the
outrigger manually, without a remote. But I would need to have someone walk me
through it. And then, as fast as it is dropping, does it need to be repaired
before it goes back on the road?
BB was looking this AM in Holbrook to
see how we would get out of town if the truck could not be repaired. Greyhound
comes through twice a day ... or an Uber costs about the same to Winslow where
we could get a local car to go pick up a one way.
Here in ABQ we can get
cars to anywhere easily. We will know more in the AM. But because of all the
down time that I need to log, I don't have enough hours to run a full day
tomorrow. And I will be likely be burning half my hours before the wheels turn
... if they turn tomorrow.
With the outrigger down, it needs to be
repaired or operated on site. No tow.
My driveaway count for the day was
12 no-tow plus one towing. Short day, miles.

1 boom truck to Carthage NC ... spending the night at
Shamrock TX
... now I'm a crane operator ? ...
Shortly after 6
AM, 8 AM Eastern, I call east coast dispatch and let them know the issue with
the outrigger on my truck. It is now touching the ground.
BB and I had
looked at things last night and not found how to run it so I was a little
hesitant to play with the lever's. We thought about all the things that could
happen.
When I talk to dispatch, one of their 1st questions was do I
want to be taken off the trip. Surprisingly, no. So they contacted the drop and
they called me back within the hour.
I was caught off guard, they wanted
me to just re-set the outrigger and go. So out to the truck I go, they start
asking me questions about the dash. Opps ... I had forgotten my glasses in my
rush out the door.
So I tell him I will call him back. We also have to
wait for the truck to build up air pressure before we can do
anything.
When everything is ready, the person at the drop starts
walking me through step by step. He is not aware of the switch I had turned on
last night, but has me turn it on again. Then there is a 2nd switch to turn on,
PTO. I did not do that. Also, the clutch has to be in when turning it
on.
NOW the hydraulics are running. He then has me turn on a switch that
we had played with last night but didn't know which setting we needed. Here is
the part that put my mind at ease. With the switch one direction, only the lift
levers will work. Switched the other way, only out rigger levers will work. So
I can't move the lift with the outrigger levers.
I guess right on which
lever to use, up comes the outrigger. Just like it should. End of call. BB and
I then have breakfast and the outrigger has not dropped. I call dispatch back
and they want to make sure I stay on this truck. I must have really sounded
like I wanted to bail, I hadn't. BB and I had just talked about all the
options.
When checking out, I talked to the front desk about the
homeless. Sounds like the city does have a place for them a few blocks away on
the other side of the freeway but it is so bad that a lot of people would
rather sleep on the street. When we did leave, the area where the homeless had
been covering the sidewalk is now clear. No trash, nothing.
We did have
to add another half gallon of oil this AM. And I put more tape on the wiper
stub. Good news, the truck had started last night when BB and I were trying to
figure out the outriggers and again twice this AM. I had also had to re-start
it at the inspection station.
We finally pull out at 8 AM local, not too
bad when we thought we had a good chance of being pulled from the
trip.
1st stop is in Moriarty at a TA. Always a zoo, even on a Saturday
AM. I get in one line and someone trying to leave via the entrance is waving
for me to get out of his way. I shouldn't have, but I did move ... and then
realized I was on the blind side of someone's truck so I moved again. It was a
while before trucks moved enough so that I was sure of my place in line. The
area I had been blocking? Was pretty much blocked by others once I got out of
the way for the rest of my time there.
Another fuel pump that won't read
my cards, so we have to go inside, as did the person ahead of me and the person
behind me. Only about half the fuel islands at this place are working which is
part of the problem. Luckily they have a yard person trying to keep people out
of the closed lanes. People like to park there ... then someone else pulls in
behind them expecting to be able to fuel there.
2nd stop was somewhere
west of Santa Rosa at a rest area. In NM, the allow food trucks, or A food
truck at each rest area. Too early for us to eat. This place was only an hour
from our last stop but I wanted to check on the outrigger every hour to make
sure it was holding. I held all day. Not sure what happened
yesterday.
3rd stop was in Glen Rio for food at the Russel Truck Stop,
now a TA. We didn't want to take too much time so we got Subway. I got
something new and was not impressed. BB got a sandwich from Subway and them
some green chili from the truckstop deli.
We ate in the truck, it's used
and it is running. I don't plan on shutting it off more than once ... when I
shut down for the night.
4th stop is the rest area in Amarillo. The new
Bucee's is going up across the street. And a new Road Range is almost open at
the next exit. Plus a few new one9's across the area.
We had thought we
would be shutting down in Amarillo but I have just enough hours to get to
Shamrock. So we push on. I really want to be rid of this truck on
Tuesday.
We get to Shamrock with 15 minutes to spare, for my day ...
that was it.
5th stop is the Sleep Inn in Shamrock. When we check in,
the desk tells us that a Chic-fil-A truck is in town so we walk down to get
food. But they are out of ... salad, grilled chicken, brownies, cookies. When
we talked to the front desk later they said there had been long lines this AM
when the trucks opened. It is Saturday in a small town.
Only 387 miles
today because of the late start and my limited hours.
I counted 74
transporter units today, all no-tow. I likely missed that many also because a
lot of people do not properly mark them. And we likely saw that many more on
flat beds.
Load board (weekend) US - 228 IA - 22/21 MN -
3 WI - 15
Tomorrow, rolling by daylight. Hoping for a 500+ mile day
and ... NO issues. (but the money is good, hotels have been
cheep)
.. the trip continues HERE
