IN - ELKHART - DAYS INN - 8/22 - POSTED
Poor directions is why I ended up here
I was looking for a
different motel, couldn't find it, saw this one that I had stayed at before and
stopped. Ended up getting a better rate than the place I was looking for, so a
good deal was had. The place is old
part of bottom of the desk draw
was missing, there were others that I can't remember after staying in a few
other motels between then and when I am writing this. But nothing that would
stop be from staying there again. I did take a quick look at breakfast,
just the basic breakfast and very little of it, just a few pieces of each item.
Big rig parking is where you can find it or on the side street between the
Days Inn and the Red Roof next door. Mc D's is next door
Callahans
is a couple of blocks away, plus lots of other eat places.

I kind of picked this exit to find a
motel because I remember how good the food here was a few years ago. This
time I ordered a French Dip, coleslaw and potato soup. The 'cream' soup
was not was thick as many I've had but it was good, and a bowl of it, not just
a cup. Coleslaw was good too and again, not just a cup of it but a saucer full.
French Dip was good too. Service was good, lots of food for a little
price.

It gets all five stars
But I have to stay in motels for my
work and cannot afford to pay a whole days wages for a nights motel
and
that is AFTER they came down 25%. Everything about this location was top
notch, the help, the room. The breakfast was the usual list of motel food
plus sausage and eggs. Plenty of everything and good quality stuff.
If you are going to be in the area and can afford it, I would recommend this
place. (And I'm guessing this place is a fraction of the cost of the places a
mile away on the waterfront.) One downside for me is there is no food
within walking distance so 'snack food' was my evening meal. NO FOOD

OH - MILAN -
MOTEL 6 - 8/24
I was in a position where I had to make as many miles
as I could each day (Commercial driver) so here is where I was out of hours.
Milan, OH. The 1st place I tried was honest 'We don't have affordable
rates.' The 2nd one would not honor our corporate pricing (their contract is
now under review). So I ended up here at the Motel 6. It is a nice place
but I've stay in just as nice of Motel 6's for a 1/3 of the price.
So while the place and service were good, it is only getting a four for being
over priced (IMO) And yes, I know everything in the area is high priced
and that is why I will do what I can to not stay in this area again
this
is not an attack on this motel.
OH - MILAN - FOOD
Missing one important detail. This place was the only non-fast food within
walking distance of my motel. Very short menu list, about the only thing I
recognized was 'ravioli' so that is what I ordered. That and a salad. As
I'm eating my salad I notice the 'daily specials' listed on the wall
veggie lasagna. THAT was never mentioned by the waitress. That is what I would
have wanted to order. Salad was good and fresh, ravioli was good
half was just cheese the other half was with meat. Service was (other than
that one detail) good and quick.
TN - WHITE HOUSE - DAYS INN -
8/25 - SUNDAY
Coupon
That is what got me in here. I needed to
be close to, but not in, Nashville and White House was where I pulled off. And
the best coupon deal was the Days Inn. Somewhere I saw that the rooms were
'newly remodeled,' if so, I could not tell. They are nice, beds were good, sink
area looked new. But the carpet was worn through near the bath room, the tub
had cigarette burns on it, the TV was old style
just didn't look 'new.'
But for me it works
clean, quiet and cooled. I don't need 'new' or
the perks. The parking lot is shared with the restaurant next door. It is
large but not really room for big rigs. One did pull in the night I was there
straight in. And once the restaurant closed would be able to back around
enough to get out. Otherwise one would have to either back in from or out onto
the street. Plenty of room for smaller trucks. Breakfast was the basic
plus the make your own waffle.
TN - FOOD
I will be
back
It looks like my work will bring me down I-65 a few more times in
the next months and I will be back. Either for a noon break or overnight next
door. I couldn't decide between the potato soup and the French Onion so I
got both plus a ½ sandwich. For lunch I will likely be ordering two cups
of the potato soup as I didn't see 'bowl' on the menu. The French Onion
soup was different than any I have had before, Instead of broth will some onion
in it, this was almost like an onion mush. No extra liquid at all. Good but
I had hoped to dip my sandwich in the broth. The sandwich I ordered
was their Philly, this too was different. Instead of the usual type of cheese,
this was more of a cheese sauce and the peppers were red instead of green
giving it a different flavor there too. The place is new, around a month
since it opened. Service was good
food was GREAT. I would not
recommend trying to get a semi in the parking lot they share with the Days Inn
next door
although someone did without an issue. But plenty of room for
RV's, strait trucks, buses
40 foot rigs.
KY - LEXINGTON
- SUPER 8
We were tired, both of us try to avoid the '6, and there
were trucks parked there. It looked like the place for us. Price was a little
high so we (co-worker and I) split a room for the only time on this trip.
Because of the price, we were asking about discount, coupons, etc and were told
they didn't have any coupons (looking on-line now I see there were coupons, and
we had them with us
but were too tired to look for them) The basic
room was OK, meets the clean, quiet and temp controlled which is all I need.
Anyone who needs 'security' would have asked for a different room as on our
door the dead-bolt would not turn and the 'view latch' was only held in one of
two places (the latch that allows you to open the door two inches) The
bathroom looked 're-done,' and IMO, would meet the standards of chains line the
Holiday Inn and Best Western, but the sink area was cracked and rough in
places. We had checked in late and got up too late for breakfast so I
don't know what there may have been. Beside the basic's I saw a waffle iron and
a warming pan (so they must have had something more than the basics) Bob
Evan's is right next door, the Waffle House, Arby's and McDonalds are just down
from them In the AM there were two people busy working on rooms so it
looks like they are actively trying to improve things
it looked like
more than just maintenance.

SOUTH BEND - LA QUIENTA
Without wheels and I knew this motel was the
closest place to the airport so when I called and got the price I did, not even
calling anywhere else to see who might have had a good price and a shuttle. I
just grabbed a sandwich at the airport and walked over. I could not see any
place else within walking distance so it would have been delivery. WOW
see photo's (all photo's are from the same room) WOW I make a
lot of comments in my reviews about 'overpriced' motels for the working person
no complaints here. Their walk-in rate is less than I paid for a '6 last
night and there is NO comparison
other than they both met my basic needs
of clean, quiet and temp controlled. Had to leave an hour before breakfast
but it looks like a huge spread from the layout. |
