BEST WESTERN - WICHITA
Best Western Governors
'Best Western Rewards'
It is the only major perks card I don't have
yet. I'm requesting it after this stay. This was not my first
choice for tonight
but to get to my first choice I would have had to
have gone past the 'NO TRUCKS' sign. This one was a few dollars more (and I
would guess a lot nicer.) Only a single person at the front desk but they
were staying pleasant through it all. Maybe it was unusual for a 'rush' after 8
PM in Wichita. Large vehicle parking is in another business across the
street, not sure if this is just on weekends or all the time, but there were a
few of us parked here tonight. If you pull in with something other than a
car/pickup, chances are you will be backing out. Really nice room, I was
right across from the ice machine and elevator and couldn't hear a thing from
the bed, but from the bathroom I seemed to be able to hear it all. Did
grab one yogurt for breakfast, 6 oz. It seemed bigger than a lot of places but
I'll have to check. Basic breakfast plus biscuits and gravy.

MOTEL 6 - HOUSTON
They were not bed bugs
but
(I'll write this as it happened.) I picked this location solely
by looking at an online map to see what was closest to my appointment first
thing tomorrow. I knew there were cheaper places in other parts for town but
didn't want to chance traffic being bad. A co-worker I hadn't met was
going to meet me there, he called about 10 minute before I arrived and his
initial report was. 'The place was kind of trashy so he asked to see a room
before checking in. The basic's checked out OK so he checked in.' I did my
usual routine every motel I check into. Pulled back the sheet on my side of the
bed, checked the toilet, sink and tub. It looked like it would meet my basics
of clean, quiet and hot water. My first thought was 'this is an old Holiday
Inn, I wonder how many other names it has had since then? Even on the first
walk though I don't think it would pass a Motel 6 inspection. The fabric on the
'soft chair' was worn through, the toilet seat was loose, the tub had a chip
out of it. But I've stayed in a lot worse. After going out to eat I came
back to do some paperwork. That is when I started killing bugs. Didn't think a
whole lot about it until about two minutes before I was going to jump into bed
I get a phone call. The co-worker is calling me from another motel. When he
went to climb into bed he found 'a dozen' bugs in his bed. So while he was on
the phone I pulled more of the sheet back, nothing. But after hanging up,
I slowly rolled the sheet back the whole way, bugs. At first I thought I would
just sleep on top of the covers, but when I killed more back at my desk, I
realized they may just keep on coming all night. Then I did something I
have never done before in over 10 years of 'living on the road.' I went and
checked out, got my money back and went to a different mote. This one DID NOT
meet my basics of 'CLEAN, quiet and hot water.' I had never had a reason
to know what bed bugs looked like so I looked them up online. What was in my
bed and room WAS NOT bed bugs, but they were bugs (there were also two other
types of bugs I saw in the room). By looking at the reviews now
instead
of before I checked in. I see that this location had a bed bug problem when it
was still a Quality Inn last year. That is a long time to have the same
problem. When I went to the front desk and told them I had bugs I was
asked if I wanted a different room or my money back
no questions of how
many, what kind or where
Not sure what I'll do next time as the
other motels in the area are $30-$50 more, but I won't be back here.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. My
Reply 1st - as the first line of my review says - THIS IS NO LONGER A
QUALITY INN it is a Motel 6. I also stated what I had was NOT bed bugs, but
bugs in my bed. Someone else on TripAdvisor stated they had bed bugs when this
location was still a Quality Inn. I stand by my review once the location has
been changed to a Motel 6.

Bugs, bugs and bugs (I'll
write this review as things happened that night) My sole reason I picked
this location was by looking at an online map to see what was closest to my
appointment first thing tomorrow. I knew there was cheaper places in other
parts for town but didn't want to chance traffic being bad. I co-worker I
hadn't met was going to meet me there, he called about 10 minute before I

Motel 6) he found 'a dozen' bugs in his bed. So while he was on the phone I

rolled the sheet back the whole way, bugs. At first I thought I would just
sleep on top of the covers, but when I killed more back at my desk, I realized
they may just keep on coming all night. Then I did something I have never
done before in over 10 years of 'living on the road.' (And I have stated at
motels that cost as little as $20). I went and checked out, got my money back
and went to a different motel. This one DID meet my basics of 'CLEAN, quiet and
hot water.' I had never had a reason to know what bed bugs looked like so
I looked them up online. What was in my bed and room WAS NOT bed bugs, but they

The only plus I would give this place is that the desk clerk
was pleasant through it all, never rude. Not sure what I'll do next time

Abuelos Mexican Kitchen Inc We wanted something within
walking distance of the Quality Inn, the Texas Seafood Restaurant was closing
at 8 PM (didn't realize Houston was that small of town), didn't want fast food
so walked past Burger King, McDonalds and Taqueria Arandas 9 and ended up here
at Abuelos Mexican Kitchen. The place seemed a little quiet for a Sunday
night (maybe that is why the Texas Seafood place is closed) but we aren't from
around here. The place stayed ¼ to 1/3 full as people came and went.
We were greeted and seated right away, they checked back on us until we
were ready. Both my co-worker and I ordered the chimichanga. I ordered the
chicken and we both thought he had too, but by the time he realized his was
beef he also realized it was too good to return. He ate all of his, but I
couldn't finish mine. Not sure where I'll stay next time I'm in the area,
but I know I'll be eating here.
QUALITY INN
'Tonights stay
was no longer about price'
My co-worker and I had been on opposite
ends of the Motel 6 next door and both found bugs in our bed when we finally
turned in for the night. So after checking out there I was not wanting to go
too far so I just walked across the parking lots and checked in at the Quality
Inn. This place past my basic walk through and I did get a good nights
sleep. The front desk was pleasant both check in and check out. Did find
two minor issues. First one of the wall lights didn't work
because the
outlet it is supposed to plug into is being used by the microwave and fridge.
(This looks like a 'set-up' issue that should have been taken care of when the
appliances were added.) Second was the bathroom fan was loose from the wall by
about four inches. I have stayed in places I would not have even mentioned
these two items, but I hold the Quality Inn to a higher standard
AND
after reading reviews of when they used to occupy the Motel 6 building next
door, this location does seem to have its issues. I don't have the dates but it
looks like this motel used to be the Baymont and the Quaility Inn used to be
where the Motel 6 is now, this move may have just happened this spring, 2013.
I'm not advising people not to stop here, just make sure you check things
out when you get your room. These were not issues that would make me stay
elsewhere, but others have different standards. Do wish I wouldn't have
had to leave so early, besides the basic breakfast, they had scrambled eggs and
bacon
but I had to run. |
